What were we up to in Fall 2017 at the University of Illinois? Here are highlights from our semester!

Quad Day

To start the semester, we had an incredible Quad Day. This annual event shows new and old students the diverse opportunities available in our campus community. A record numbers of students signed up to join IlliniPAC!

Faces of Israel

In October we piloted the “Faces of Israel” Project on our campus. This campaign celebrates Israel’s diversity and appreciates the inclusivity we witness around us! It includes a photographic exhibition portraying unique individuals from different segments of the Israeli “melting-pot”. Among the photos, there are Jews, Muslims, Christians, Druze, Bedouins, members of the LGBTQ+ community, athletes, academics, and much more!

Political Extravaganza Barn Dance

IlliniPAC collaborated with Illinois Model United Nations, Illini Democrats, and Common Cause UIUC to put on a barn dance. People from different sides of the political spectrum came together for a night of country aesthetic, hay rides, camp fires, and dancing in a barn.

Israel Week 2017

This semester, we teamed up with other organizations to have a week full of Israel programming! Monday through Thursday we were on the main quad with our “#SpreadLove” campaign. We passed out free Israeli flags and students signed their names on letters spelling “LOVE” in Hebrew. We sold t-shirts and raised over $500 for Save A Child’s Heart – an Israeli organization that provides children in the Middle East and Africa with free heart transplants. Monday night, Israel fellow Waga Brok gave a lecture on Sigd, an Ethiopian Jewish holiday, and told us the story of how her family immigrated to Israel. On Wednesday, Illini Hillel hosted an Israeli Shuk event with tea, delicious crepes, and poppin’ music. We ended the week with an exciting bar crawl and an Israel Shabbat at Illini Chabad.

Puppies and Israel

We partnered with Illini Students Supporting Israel and 4 Paws for Ability at UIUC to run a campaign educating our campus about the importance of service animals and working animals in Israel as therapy aids! We discussed the use of dogs in the IDF in both operations and in psychological and emotional trauma aid.

U of I President Timothy Killeen and Illinois Governor Bruce Rauner

These two important leaders visited Israel to drive progress and economic growth for our State and University. Academic partnerships were signed with four Israeli universities. “The future partnerships between the world-renowned universities in Israel and Illinois are sure to produce groundbreaking solutions to world challenges,” said Israeli Consul General Ezra.
