In a public statement on September 24th, 2017, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign Chancellor Robert Jones condemned “anti-Semitic attacks hidden under the guise of anti-Zionist rhetoric.”
“Members of our Jewish, African American, Latino/a and many other residents of our diverse community find themselves asking whether they are welcome and safe here. The answer to that – whether in Urbana-Champaign, Chicago, or any place in this country – must be a clear and resounding ‘Yes, you are’,” wrote the Chancellor.
Thank you to all the students, alumni, and community members who have made your voices heard and have written countless letters to our school administration. This statement makes clear the strength possible when we stand unified as a community. We hope to see these words grow into continued action on this campus to signify the values we uphold as a community and to call for an end to all forms of racism and bigotry.
