On Tuesday, February 7, Itay Milner, the Deputy Consul General to the Midwest from Israel, came to Illini Hillel as a very special guest to our weekly Dinner and Discussion event. He first gave a brief summary of the work he and the Consulate do, an update on the current state of the US-Israel relationship, and then opened the discussion up for questions.

Itay Milner was incredibly open and honest with all of his answers, while also maintaining a diplomatic tone and being sure to be even-handed in his responses.

The Deputy Consul General also spoke to us about his meetings with Chancellor Jones and others in the University administration. Itay plans to make the relationship between Israel and the University of Illinois even stronger. This will be through more study abroad programs, research cooperation, and partnerships through Research Park.

I thoroughly enjoyed having Itay Milner speak to us, and I was able to learn quite a bit from his work in the Consulate. I hope to see our University’s relationship with Israel grow even stronger.
